1.1 Background of the Study
Access to clean water is a critical issue for many communities in rural Nigeria, and Darazo Local Government Area in Bauchi State is no exception. The lack of clean water leads to a variety of health problems, including waterborne diseases, which disproportionately affect children and the elderly. Despite efforts by government and non-governmental organizations to address water scarcity, the issue persists in many rural areas due to inadequate infrastructure and public awareness. Photography can serve as an essential tool in raising awareness about the importance of clean water, documenting the challenges faced by residents, and advocating for improved access to water resources. Through compelling images of daily life, water sources, and the health impacts of water scarcity, photography can highlight the urgency of the issue and drive advocacy efforts aimed at securing clean water for communities. This study seeks to explore the role of photography in advocating for clean water access in Darazo, examining how visual storytelling can influence both public awareness and policy change.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The scarcity of clean water in Darazo Local Government Area poses significant challenges to the health and well-being of its residents. Despite the efforts of various stakeholders to address water issues, many communities still rely on unsafe water sources. While advocacy campaigns exist, there is a lack of visual documentation to effectively communicate the gravity of the problem and mobilize support for solutions. Photography offers an opportunity to document the realities of water scarcity, making the issue more relatable and visible. This study seeks to investigate how photography can be used in advocacy for clean water access in Darazo and its potential to influence public perceptions and policy actions.
